Best Alternative to Samaria Gorge - Private Hike

A peaceful and authentic walk for those who want to experience Crete away from the crowds. A 10 km circular walk through two hidden gorges and one of the quieter landscapes of western Crete. We begin in Karanos, a traditional Cretan mountain village where life still moves at a slower pace. From here, we descend into the first gorge. Both gorges are still largely undiscovered by tourism, and you will rarely meet other walkers here. Along the way, ancient trees have been shaped by time and nature, their trunks twisting and bending into extraordinary forms. Growing untouched between the steep rock walls, they give the gorges their wild and almost magical character. Much of the walk is in natural shade, beneath trees and between high rock walls, making it especially pleasant during the warmer months. Only the open river section is sunnier. IMPORTANT: A good level of fitness is required.
