Srirangapatna & Mysore

Mysore Kingdom - a powerful Hindu Empire in South India. The rulers, Wodeyars, hailed from Mysore and hence the region got its name as Mysore. However its capital was Srirangapatna. The Mysore city is known for its Palaces, the most famous being the Amba Vilas Palace or just Mysore Palace. The Palace draws many visitors and is the second most visited monument after the Taj in India! Srirangapatna – An ancient holy city that also saw rise and fall of empires and served as a capital for the Mysore Empire until the English set in. Today, a sleepy hamlet, that tells the tales of yore with the still intact forts, Summer Palaces set amidst beautiful Cauvery River that is also home to the ancient Ranganatha temple that lends it name to the city.
