About this experience
Admire the ruins of Ercolano, the “younger sister” of Pompei, yet no less fascinating, frozen in time by the same devastating volcanic eruption of 79 AD. Buried under ash until the 18th century, its discovery amazed the world. Today, the entire ancient city lies about 23 meters below ground within a vast archaeological area.
Discover the garden of the Casa dell’Albergo, where quince trees have been replanted following the traces of the carbonized roots of ancient fruit trees. The next stop is the Collegio degli Augustali, where splendid frescoes depict Ercole.
Visit the mosaics of the Casa di Nettuno e Anfitrite and the nearby shop, where containers of food and wine, carbonized by the eruption, are still hanging on the walls. Continue toward the ancient terme, still decorated with mosaics of Roman saunas, gymnasiums, hot rooms, and cold pools.
Finally, admire one of the most spectacular villas in Ercolano, the Villa dei Cervi, with its luxurious mosaics, frescoes, and statues.
