About this experience
Twante is a short drive from Yangon, yet life there moves at a different pace. Rice fields and farmland surround the town, and its pottery workshops still work the way they did generations ago.
Your private guide and driver cross the Yangon River on the new Yangon-Dala Bridge, with views back over the river to the Shwedagon skyline. In the Oh-Bo pottery quarter, you meet the artisans and learn first-hand how they make their wares.
After lunch at a local restaurant, visit Shwe San Daw Pagoda. At 75 metres high, its design recalls Shwedagon and, like other pagodas of the same name, it is said to hold hairs of the Buddha, yet it sees far fewer visitors.
The drive home follows the Twante Canal, dug during the British era, past wooden boats loaded with local produce and villages set among paddy fields. Book this private day trip for a quieter side of the Yangon region.
