About this experience
Ride an eco-vehicle into the hidden underground labyrinth of Japan's stone town.
One Stone. Three Stories. – Prayer, industry and everyday life, all carved from a single stone.
Discover the unique heritage of Oya stone on this immersive 3-hour premium tour. For centuries, this soft green tuff has been carved for prayer, quarried for industry and used in everyday life. A local English-speaking guide takes you by Green Slow Mobility, a quiet open-air eco-vehicle, through dramatic rock formations to Oya-ji Temple, where a Buddha is carved directly into the cliff. Then step down into a vast underground quarry that feels like a hidden labyrinth. Finish with hands-on activities: break raw stone yourself and make a stone deodorizer to take home.
* Duration: 3 hours, small group (minimum 2 participants)
* English-speaking local guide
* Visit Oya-ji Temple and the Oya History Museum's underground quarry
