About this experience
The tour focuses on the area of Ryogoku, on the Tokyo's east side. Ryogoku is well-known as the center for the sumo world where a tournament is held three times a year. The itinerary will provide insight to the sport with opportunity to view an actual sized ring as well as a visit to the Sumo Museum on the days it is open.
Besides sumo, the area has a rich history with many temples and shrines though a majority of the buildings that once stood were destroyed either by the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 or the bombing during World War II. A small but informative exhibition hall tells us the story of what happened during these difficult times and how the city quickly recovered.
