About this experience
This one-day tour explores the “Traces of Poland in the Heart of the Caucasus,” highlighting the historical and cultural ties between Poland and Azerbaijan. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Polish architects, engineers, and scientists played a key role in shaping Baku’s urban development, oil industry, education and medicine legacies still visible today.
The tour includes the site of the world’s first mechanically drilled oil well from 1846, Villa Petrolea of the Nobel family and the modern redevelopment of Baku White City. Walking along Istiglaliyyat Street, travelers see iconic buildings designed by Polish architects such as Józef Gosławski, Kazimierz Skórewicz, and Józef Płoszko. The experience concludes with visits to the National Museum of History and the Church of the Immaculate Conception reflecting Baku’s rich multicultural and architectural heritage.
