About this experience
This is a small and intimate group walking tour of no more than 12 people.
Beneath modern Rome lies an entire hidden world waiting to be discovered. Join us as we explore the underground layers of the Eternal City, where ancient history still survives beneath today’s streets.
We’ll begin at the new Colosseum metro station, transformed into a fascinating “museum-station” after incredible archaeological discoveries were uncovered during construction. Here, we’ll learn about ancient water wells and daily life in Rome nearly 2,000 years ago.
Next, we’ll visit the site of the ancient gladiator training school beside the Colosseum, where fighters once lived and prepared for battle just steps from the arena.
Finally, we’ll descend beneath the Basilica of San Clemente, one of Rome’s oldest churches. Layer by layer, we’ll uncover a hidden medieval church, an ancient Roman temple, and even an underground stream still flowing beneath the city today.
