About this experience
Step into a 100-year-old family home and experience Sri Lankan batik as a living family tradition. At Samara Batiks, our 50-year heritage comes from the late grandfather, renowned Sri Lankan artist A.J. Ranasinghe, who exhibited his work internationally throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
Your workshop is guided by the family’s master artisan, G.P. Ranasinghe, and is exclusively reserved for you for the entire day. We host only one workshop each day, giving you the freedom to take your time, stay as long as you wish, and fully immerse yourself in the heritage, stories and creative process—without being rushed.
Slow down and discover batik through stories, wax, colour and creativity as you learn the traditional techniques of sketching, waxing and dyeing, transforming fabric into a vibrant piece of art. This is more than a batik workshop—it’s an intimate glimpse into a family heritage and a peaceful side of Sri Lanka that you won’t find in an ordinary workshop.
