The Chemical City Walking Tour

If we look closely, we find that drugs have played a pivotal role at the heart of every chapter in Berlin’s modern history. This tour traces the path from the 19th century laboratories of Merck through the wild, Golden 1920s, the meth-fueled Blitzkrieg, and the addictions of the Nazi elite. We explore the doping of the GDR and the post-unification Techno revolution that redefined the city’s nights. We will visit the sites that are still standing and the ghosts of those that no longer exist, uncovering the events, the people, and the ideologies that shaped, and were shaped by, Berlin’s (and Germany's) relationship with substances. * Just so we’re on the same page: This is a historical deep-dive. There will be no buying, selling, or consuming of substances on this tour. It will be impossible to follow otherwise : )
