About this experience
Downtown Yangon was laid out under British rule, and much of that city still stands. This private half day walking tour shows it to you at street level, with plenty of time to stop, look and listen.
It starts with the one sight no visit should miss: Shwedagon Pagoda, the country's most sacred landmark and national symbol, reached by car. Then drive down to Strand Road along the Yangon River, where Pansodan Jetty gives you a glimpse of local ferry life.
From there, your guide leads you on foot up Pansodan Street, lined with protected colonial buildings, and along Maha Bandula Road past Sule Pagoda and the Independence Monument. Shwe Bontha Street and its gold shops take you on to Little India, full of Indian influences around Anawrahta Road.
The walk ends among historic shophouses at Bogyoke Market, where your driver meets you for the ride back to your hotel. Book it for an unhurried look at old Yangon.
