St Peter Square Basilica and Grottoes Group Guided Tour

We move from the grand public stage of the Square into the artistic triumphs of the Basilica, finally descending into the quiet, sacred silence of the Grottoes. The tour begins in the vast Piazza San Pietro. Your guide will explain how Gian Lorenzo Bernini transformed a chaotic space into a symmetrical masterpiece of the Baroque era. After clearing security, we enter the world’s largest church. This portion of the tour focuses on the sheer scale and the masterpieces of the Renaissance. Finally, we descend beneath the Basilica floor to the Papal Grottoes. This is a much quieter, more somber experience.
