About this experience
This walking tour follows Venice’s Rialto Bridge, which once linked St Mark’s, the political center, with the city’s commercial heart at Rialto, founded, according to legend, in 421. Join Dr Susan Steer, art historian and Context Travel expert, through some of the city’s oldest districts.
The tour starts in Campo San Bartolomeo, beside the statue of playwright Carlo Goldoni. You’ll cross Rialto Bridge, wind through Rialto and the San Polo district, and stroll along the Grand Canal, lined with the statement homes of Venice’s ruling class.
You’ll pass the Scuola Grande di San Rocco and the Church of Saint Roch, ending at the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. Along the way, Susan points out ancient markets, historic hostelries, and places where the city’s guilds once assembled, sharing stories of artists and personalities from the past.
Along the way, visit Cantina Do Mori, Casanova’s favorite watering hole, and Campo San Polo, once home to banned bullruns.
