Did you know Japan’s tea ceremony was born in Sakai? This historic city built its reputation on three legendary crafts: knives, tea, and incense. We travel between spots by local tram (bring your IC card, or your guide can help you get one!) and usually fit 2 to 3 of these experiences into your day: Knife Workshop: Watch skilled artisans forge the legendary blades that top chefs worldwide rely on. (Depending on the day, we may visit a factory or exhibition instead). Yamaguchi Residence: Step inside a traditional merchant house and feel the bustling atmosphere of old Sakai. Matcha Incense Making: Upcycle real matcha into sweet-smelling incense, shaping it like the ancient statues and tombs found around the city. Matcha Experience: Sip tea prepared by a true tea master, right in the birthplace of Sen no Rikyu and the Japanese tea ceremony.
