The notorious Circle 4 around the Langstrasse looks back on a short but extremely turbulent history. The district impresses with its authenticity, multicultural diversity and cosmopolitanism. What was once considered a sanctuary for immigrants : inside and drug addicts, has become a contrasting and vibrant neighborhood. The red-light milieu still characterises places like the «Bermuda Triangle», and in the alleys around the Langstrasse you can feel the wild spirit of bygone times in countless bars and clubs. It is precisely this contrast that galleries, architectural firms, creative designers : inside and in restaurants , make use of to let their creativity run wild in the «Chib» district. The term «Cheib» goes back to the word for animal carcasses, a reference to the pits that once existed here. They have long since disappeared, but the name has survived and has remained a trademark of the district to this day.
