About this experience
Ohrid is a three hour drive south of Skopje, on a lake listed by UNESCO for both its cultural and its natural value. This day trip runs every Friday, leaves from the meeting spot at 08:30 and returns to Skopje in the evening. A local guide walks the old town with you, past the ancient theatre, Plaošnik and the walls of Samuel's Fortress, down the boardwalk that hangs over the water and around the headland to the magnificent church of St John at Kaneo. Then the afternoon in Ohrid is yours, about three hours of it, to swim between June and September, hold a lakefront table, or climb back up to the fortress. Entry tickets, meals and drinks stay optional and paid on site. The free afternoon opens up a few extras if you want them: a boat out of the harbour under the Kaneo cliffs with a swim stop off it, season, weather and lake conditions permitting, a browse through the shops for the region's hand made Ohrid pearls, or a lakefront brunch looking over the crystal clear waters of Lake Ohrid.
