About this experience
This autumn, discover the world of Edo-period ukiyo-e through the works of two legendary artists, Utagawa Kunisada and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, in the heart of Tokyo's Kabukicho district.
Although both artists studied under Utagawa Toyokuni I, they each developed their own distinctive artistic style and became two of the most celebrated ukiyo-e masters of the late Edo period.
Kunisada was famous for his elegant portraits of kabuki actors and beautiful women, while Kuniyoshi captivated audiences with dramatic warrior prints, imaginative storytelling, and his unmistakable sense of humour.
This special exhibition showcases far more than shunga (Japanese erotic art). Visitors will also enjoy a carefully curated collection of bijin-ga (beautiful women prints), kabuki actor prints, warrior prints, illustrated books, and woodblock prints ranging from large masterpieces to delicate miniature works.
