About this experience
One ticket, two UNESCO World Heritage convict estates in Northern Tasmania. Brickendon Estate and Woolmers Estate are linked by the 2.8km Convict Farm Walk and the suspension bridge over the Macquarie River & together tell the story of the Assignment System, where convict men & women gained skills, earned freedom & often chose to stay.
At Woolmers, 18 original buildings still stand across 13 hectares, from the grand homestead with the family’s contents in place to the two-storey shearing shed marked with convict graffiti. Wander the expansive Rose Garden & 1840s Walled Garden, explore Unshackled: The Assignment Story Exhibition & dine at the Rose Garden Café or 1847 Servants’ Kitchen. Woolmers Estate Is Open Daily
At Brickendon, still farmed by Archer descendants, over 20 convict-built buildings stand in the 1820s Farm Village, including a Gothic chapel. Meet the farm animals at the daily feeding & walk 4 hectares of heritage gardens. Brickendon Estate is open Tuesday - Sunday
