About this experience
Visit Westerbork on a private remembrance journey with Dutch historical researcher and storyteller Martin van Elmpt of Tour Guides for You. From Amsterdam or another agreed location, we travel to one of the most significant sites of Holocaust history in the Netherlands.
Westerbork was not a death camp, but became the main transit camp from which more than 100,000 Jews, Roma and Sinti were deported to Auschwitz, Sobibor, Theresienstadt, Bergen-Belsen and other camps. We explore the former camp grounds, memorials and railway line, while following individual stories and the wider question of how persecution and deportation became possible in the Netherlands.
This is a private historical journey, adapted to your pace, interests and knowledge. If your family has a connection with the Netherlands during WWII, tell me: where possible, I can include that history in the day. I specialise in WWII and family-history research. It’s your day, your journey — the idea behind Tour Guides for You.
