About this experience
Waterfalls, caves and untouched trails in Kenya's highlands
The Aberdares are one of Kenya's least visited parks and that's exactly the point. Dense highland forest, ancient caves and some of Kenya's most impressive waterfalls - all at around 3,000 metres, cool air and no crowds.
Over two days you'll walk to Chania Falls, explore Queen's Cave and make it to Karuru Falls - one of Kenya's highest. Wildlife in the Aberdares is less habituated than in the big parks - buffaloes, elephants and mountain reedbuck are all here, and encounters feel genuinely wild when they happen. Nights at Reedbuck Campsite mean freshly cooked dinners, a campfire and highland skies with no light pollution for miles. Subject to weather and park regulations, there's also a chance to swim at Gura Falls.
Optional extras include trout fishing at Karuru (extra fee) and a hike up Mt Satima at 4,001 metres - get in touch and we'll plan it with you.
Bring warm layers. It gets cold up here.
