What exactly is this “Valley of the Kings”? It is the place where the pharaohs (and their families) were buried. Such an ancient cemetery with tombs carved into the rock. Most of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings had been looted before archaeologists reached them. That’s why Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s Tomb in 1922 caused a huge stir. Despite the late discovery, this tomb was filled with treasures. There were gold beds, a throne, chests, and the famous golden mask of Tutankhamun weighing about 10 kilograms. Today, the mask is in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and can be admired during a trip to Cairo.
